Term 3 has flown by with lots of fantastic learning across the school.

It was a highlight of our term to have our open classrooms so well attended by our families. Our open classrooms will be an approach we continue to take as a means to share student learning and allow students and parents to engage with each other about the learning within the classroom. Taking an interest in the learning of your child is a key way to support them and enhance their engagement and commitment towards their schooling.

We wish all our year 5 and 6 students well who are participating in the Country Gold carnivals (at the time of writing). They have all been working hard on preparing for the carnivals and I am sure they will represent themselves, their team, family, and school with pride. Our winter sporting program across the Term has been a wonderful way for our students to build their skills, as well as sportsmanship and socialise with other students from different schools. We would like to thank all of the wonderful high school students from Star of the Sea, Lilydale District School and Port Dalrymple School who came and umpired and coached this season. Without them it would be very difficult to run the days as successfully as we do.

Early in Term 4 (Friday the 17th of October), our year 3-6 students will have the opportunity to come together with other students from the George Town schools to participate in a Mass Choir event. This event is organised by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and funded by Bell Bay Aluminium. This is a wonderful opportunity and wish to thank both organisations for their continued and ongoing support of the arts in George Town.

As we enter Term 4 we have begun our planning for next year in terms of class structure, classes and staffing. We will continue to update everyone as soon as we lock in decisions, however, staffing is often unknown until late in the year (sometimes not until the following year). As always we are as open and transparent in with this as we can be but are reliant on the Department and their staffing procedures before we can make announcements.

Finally, have a wonderful and refreshing break and don’t forget your hat for term 4!
