South George Town Primary School is located in George Town, Northern Tasmania. Our school was established in 1967. There are 285 students currently enrolled at the school. 

Students work in 12 class groupings  Kindergarten to Grade 6 with class sizes ranging from 20 to 26. We aim to support each child in achieving their potential and to do this within a safe caring and supportive environment. We provide a vigorous and comprehensive teaching, learning and assessment program based upon the Australian Curriculum. Pride is taken in the student outcomes achieved. Our staff work proactively with parents and the broader community to build an increasingly effective school. 

 The  2013 -2016  South George Town Primary School Strategic  Plan  identifies Early Learning, Literacy & Numeracy, Quality Teaching and Supportive School Environments  as priorities. We offer a range of innovative supplementary programs including LOTE and Arts pursuits and extended learning opportunities. We provide programs to support Aboriginal students  and Launching into Learning programs through National Partnership funding  to support children, aged 0 to 4 years, in  George Town  and surrounding areas. Community and Family Out Reach programs are linking families to Early Learning programs,  an example are the  prior to kindergarten programs, such as Fire Station School, Gumnuts and Possums  are open to families.   

We  provide opportunities to connect with the  local Aboriginal culture through learning   and visits from local Aborigines. We have developed a Bush Tucker Garden with the knowledge and support  of local Aboriginals. 

We take pride in our school being an inclusive community that flexibly meets the needs of all learners so that everyone can achieve grow and be accepted. We  focus on being a better school through Positive Behaviour Support and Restorative Practices.  Our school motto is 'Be Safe, Be Fair, Show that you Care!'
